Radar Detector Mount

Postby Bayrat » Wed Mar 10, 2010 5:58 pm

I picked this up on Amazon, has the GPS for the red light cameras, radar cams and it's not a bad radar detector to boot. I don't generally speed but the guberment is using them as an additional cash register to counteract their overspending habits. The locations have an increased rate of rear end collisions so I need to be doubly aware when passing through those areas. The database has lifetime free updates.

People are going to think you are an undercover cop with a radar gun on the dash

That is a Cobra 9960G, retails for $389 but as I said, can be had for much less. The beanbag is one I got for free when I ordered the admiral a new GPS. The mount itself is a universal suction cup that can be stuck to the dash or the windshield. It just happened that the beanbag and suction cup mount worked with each other. I then used Velcro to stick the detector to the mounting plate. All the detectors come with a cheesy suction cup mount, that continually fall of the windshield. I just sent my Escort back to the factory for repair due to that.

The fob sticking out of the side of the detector is the GPS module. You can easily plug it into your computer for your camera location updates. Escort holds the patent for internal GPS, that is why it's on the outside.

Have you seen the new big black suction cup mount that Escort makes?

I have seen that, it's about time. There are a bunch of aftermarket brackets out there now.

Looks more like it should be rated by caliber rather than radar bands. :D

Make sure you take it off the dash everynight if parked outside. If not, it will be gone in no time and so will a side window. :wall:

  It is not as large as it appears in the camera phone zoom picture, in fact about the same size as my Passport with the addition of the screen. Bean bag and mount make it real obvious on the dash though. When I travel, it lives on the floor under a trash bag. At home between the dogs, the security system, the motion lights, the long unpaved driveway in the sticks and the threat relating to trespassers being shot on sight, I don't see too many punks hanging out.

But there is always the potential that scum will enter the property so I have an additional, unadvertised treat in store.
