Remove interior cargo-area side panels

Postby jamiwomack » Tue Jan 03, 2017 3:35 pm

We have a rattling coming from the back area of our 06 H3. We thought it was a bad shock, and then thought the door wasn't closing tightly, but after riding back there during a recent drive (fun) it seems to be coming from behind the side panels in that back area, like between the compartment and the back door. I'd like to remove the interior wall so that I can see what's going on behind it, but I"m not sure how it comes off, and I don't want to break it and then be stuck not getting it back together. Does anyone have any experience with this? Help will be appreciated!

The sound is coming from inside the cargo door? This is where the factory jack is stored so something might have come loose. First try accessing the area through the jack compartment in the door to see if you can find anything. If you need to pull the lower panel it just pull out, have removed it a few times.

No, not inside the cargo door. We took off that panel and it looks like the jack is secured well. It's on the side, next to the compartment located on the side, but not from it specifically, so what i need to remove is the plastic covering the whole side (it's in one piece), and it goes down under the floor piece.

There is an upper and lower piece on each side. They are held in place with retainers like the panel for the cargo door. Have never removed it completely myself but partially to run cables. Hope this helps some.

Good luck and be careful, the retainers can pull out of the panel as well. No big deal unless they fall down somewhere it's hard to get to. You can pull the rubber trim around the cargo door opening back to get access to start removing the panel.

If your lazy you could spray some foam lube around the area and let it settle down. It may calm the rattle and could help oxidation mitigation.
