3/7/15 (Monday)

9:00am SHARP-Drive to Terlingua Ghost Town/Study Butte to explore!

10:30am-Arrive at Terlingua, Texas.

Some Quick Info:
1) Terlingua, Texas hosts a REAL LIVE ghost town! It is the remains of a mercury mine from long ago. When the mercury vein went dry, miners up and left their houses, businesses and graveyards. Come tour the remnants of the old Terlingua Ghost Town (and mine), and the newer (still inhabited) section of the town, where there are restaurants, fuel stations and gift shops.
2) Upon our return to the campsites, we’ll take Maverick Road (fun dirt road), that will take us by an entry point for the Rio Grande, where we can stop and enjoy the view for a little while. Next, we will head to the Castolon Historical district, where we can stop for ice cream, refreshments and explore the Native American, Indian and older Anglo settlement homes.
3) After cooling off, we will hop on the Ross Maxwell scenic drive, which will take us through some pretty amazing twists, turns and instant terrain changes that the park has to offer on our way back to the campsites. Big Bend National Park has extraordinarily unique natural attractions and formations that we will drive by/pass through.
6:00-6:30pm-Arrive at the campsites for the night. Don't forget to inspect your rig and report any damage to the Trail Leader or chapter officer on site.
